The HKIE Fire Division 12th Annual Symposium 2020
“Practising Fire Safety for Cavern and Underground Development”
11 June 2020 (Thursday), 9:00am to 5:30pm To be rescheduled
Theatre 2, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre,
1 Expo Drive, Wanchai, Hong Kong
Programme Highlight
Developing and utilising underground spaces are promising solutions in providing the much needed land resource in densely populated cities like Hong Kong. Classic underground solutions are either for public transportation or low occupant loads application such as tunnels, metro stations, vehicle parking, pedestrian subways, sewage water treatment facilities and salt water service reservoirs, etc. Fire safety of these developments is usually achieved by following prescribed codes/rules, together with tailored fire safety strategies supported by engineering smoke/ evacuation analysis to address the unique design features, e.g. large fire compartment, longer horizontal travel distance. The theme of the Symposium is "Practising Fire Safety for Cavern and Underground Development". Knowledge and experience of recently completed projects locally and in overseas, including possible new uses and smart smoke detection equipment will be shared and discussed, which will be beneficial to resolving fire safety issues for new underground spaces to meet the diversified needs of the community. Mr. YU Tak-cheung JP, Director of Buildings, has kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour for the Symposium and will deliver an opening speech.
