Technical Talk - Fire Services Design and Implementation of Fire Engineering for “Tai Kwun” Conservation and Revitalization Project

Date, Time & Venue
21 Mar 2019 (Thurs); 7:00pm – 8:30pm (Registration starts at 6:45pm);
Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, 9/F HKIE HQ.

Programme Highlights
Tai Kwun Project (Central Police Station Conservation and Revitalization Project) successfully transformed the unique cluster of historically significant buildings in Hong Kong into a centre for heritage, contemporary arts and leisure for the public to enjoy.  The Project includes the conservation of 16 historic buildings and construction of two new buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Herzog & de Meuron.

It involved fire engineering approach that successfully minimized the intervention on the original design features of the heritage buildings without sacrificing of the fire engineering integrity.  An example is the engineering magic achieving a optimized solution while not compromising fire safety among various fire related considerations including enhancing smoke dectection, evacuation criteria under a code-compliant design, fire safety management and 100% original fabric of historic staircases.
