Seminar: Fire Testing and Product
Certification of Fire Resistance Rated
Doors In Hong Kong
Date:
October 24, 2019 (Thu)
Time:
2:00 PM – 5:30 PM
(Registration starts at 1:45 PM)
Venue: Lecture Room FJ303, The Hong
Kong Polytechnic University
Introduction:Fire Safety is a big issue in infrastructure and construction buildings. In Hong Kong, we have code of practice to govern the
requirements of fire safety level for different types of building. In order to prevent fire spread within a building, compartments will
be formed to confine the fire for a sufficient period to allow occupant evacuation, access of fire fighters to help the victims and
extinguish the fire.
Therefore, for the building elements that form the compartment, it is important to certify whether they are capable to provide the
required fire resistance performance. The fire resistance tests provide the method to determine the fire resistance performance of
the products. The test standards specify the testing conditions, the methods to assess and the criteria to classify the ‘fire resistance
performance’
Although the fire resistance test can be used to determine the performance of the product, it cannot certify every product that
manufactured and used in the product is of the same acceptable quality. The implementation of the product conformity
certification scheme therefore fitted in well to provide quality verification for the fire products
SGS, The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction and Fire Divison , Hong Kong Institution of Engineers are pleased to invite you
to participate in this seminar to share and discuss the latest trends on these topics:
- The concept of fire protection for structural building elements and how the assessment works
- The importance of RWS heating condition for tunnel lining and how to conduct the test
- Benefits of getting HKAS accredited Certification for PFPP products
Speakers: Dr. L.K. Sze, Lipmann, PhD
Technical Manager, Research Engineering Development Façade Consultants (RED)
Dr. SZE has more than 10-year experience in both product testing, assessment, fire engineering and certification of passive fire protection product. In this talk, Dr. SZE will share the concept of some basic principle on fire test and smoke control test to fire door, and the critical concern on the audit for the PCCS-PFPP Issue 3
Mr. Thomas Ma, BEng (Hons.), MSc (Eng.) CCAA Auditor, HKICA Certified Lead Auditor, HKICA Fellow member, BSOMES corporate member, CQP MCQI Project Manager, SGS Hong Kong Limited
In this talk Thomas will share the entire certification process of fire rated doors and smoke control doors based on the certification scheme (PCCS-PFPP) Issue 3, launched by Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction (HKISC) in Nov 2017.
