Technical Visit to Xian

A technical visit to Xian was held on 10-13 November 2016. There were 25 participants. The visit was designed to aid the participants’ understanding of the state-of-art fire engineering technology in Xian.

The participants first visited Xian University of Science and Technology. The visit commenced with a laboratory tour to discover the prevention and control of gas dust explosions. Prof. LEI Bai introduced the related equipment and experiment procedures. He also delivered a presentation on the development of fire engineering disciplines in the University.

The delegation also visited the outdoor plant of the Xian Qinhua Natural Gas Co., Ltd. In which the gas supply system to the public and fire protection facility was introduced. Following the site visit, Mr. LAM Ming-wing, Director and General Manager, gave a presentation on the development of the natural gas industry in Xian and the history and development of the company.

The participants likewise visited a fire services equipment factory owned by Honeywell where they enjoyed a factory tour and a visit to UL certified laboratory. The representative briefed the group on the manufacturing procedures and explained the UL requirements for the laboratory tests on smoke detectors. Finally, the participants were led to the presentation room where they appreciated the full picture of the latest fire detection technology and design.

Besides technical issues, the delegation also took the opportunity to visit the museum of the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, the Bell Tower and the city Walls.
