The presentation will cover the development of fire
engineering in Hong Kong and routes to become a Member of the HKIE Fire
Discipline and Chartered Engineer of The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
The talk will cover the reciprocal recognition and
qualifications requirements between HKIE and IFE, as well as the membership
assessment requirements for admission to the Fire Discipline and IFE with
Chartered Engineer status.

CHEUNG Yat Cheong Dominic
Ir Dominic Cheung is the Chairman of the Fire
Discipline Advisory Panel. He is a former Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the Fire
Safety Command in Hong Kong Fire Services Department. Through his over 34 years
of service in the Department, he had amassed profound experiences in many
aspects of Fire Service duties, including operational rescue, firefighting,
fire protection, training and administration. He had contributed towards
devising the fire safety standards of new railway projects, and raising the
fire safety standards of old buildings. He had offered insightful contributions
in taking forward the initiative on Introduction of Registered Fire Engineers
Scheme leading to its passage into legislation last year.
Ir Cheung was the President of Institution of Fire
Engineers (HK Branch) in 2010, and the Chairman of HKIE Fire Division for
Session 2010/2011.
Ir Dr Young Wong
Ir Dr Young Wong joined Arup Fire Hong Kong
in 2005 after spending more than 10 years in the UK on research and fire
engineering consultancy. He is a chartered engineer with The Institution of
Fire Engineers and Engineering Council UK. His main expertise is in structural
fire design and producing fire strategies using performance-based approach.
While in the UK, Young conducted research at the University of Sheffield
Structural Fire Research Group, focusing on the behaviour of steel structure in
fire. Young was guest lecturer at the University of Leeds and University of
Sheffield while he was in England. Currently he also teaches at SCOPE, City
University of Hong Kong for the University of Central Lancashire’s Fire
Engineering degree.
